Microsost is no longer just "gel'ing", now they are officially Grooving. And another non-Microsoft alternative to their network-centric approach just bit the dust...

The comment is reproduced here:

Strangely, I have yet to find someone asking the more obvious (to me) question: How the hell do you integrate Groove into Office (and a network-centric platform)? I mean, really, half to two-thirds of the tools in Groove are desktop replacements for Microsoft Server Applications (Exchange, hello!?!?, anyone, anyone...). Oh, and is anyone correlating this announcement to the oh-so-recent release of the new Live Communication Server stuff and new Communicator client? It's opposite ends of the spectrum, really. And somebody's going down. This Groove thing is more likely a foot in the door at Big Government, to upsell them to Microsoft's other products, by eliminating the availability of a non-Microsoft alternative. After all, if Groove (desktop-based) and Sharepoint/LiveCommunicationsServer/Etc (server/network-based) are BOTH Microsoft, it changes the purchasing dynamic...doesn't it? Maybe it's just me. eufreka • 3/11/05; 7:35:48 AM #
